BAP Court InformationBAP Court Information: The Richard H. Chambers U.S. Court of Appeals Building Honorable William J. Lafferty, III, Chief Judge The U.S. Bankruptcy Appellate Panel (BAP) for the Ninth Circuit was originally established by the Judicial Council of the Ninth Circuit in 1979 as an alternative forum to the district courts for hearing bankruptcy appeals. All district courts within the Ninth Circuit have issued general orders providing for the automatic referral of bankruptcy appeals to the BAP for disposition. A copy of the Amended Order Continuing the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel of the Ninth Circuit issued by the Judicial Council of the Ninth Circuit is available here. Six bankruptcy judges are appointed to serve on the BAP:
When a judge serves on the BAP, that judge is precluded from hearing or deciding any matters which arise from his or her home court. The BAP office is located in Pasadena, California. The BAP holds oral arguments throughout the Ninth Circuit as the caseload dictates. More detailed information about the BAP is available in the BAP Litigant’s Manual available here. |
